BEEF RENDANG RECIPE
Beef rendang is a very delicious beef dish rich in spices, typical of Indonesia. The following is a beef rendang recipe that you can try:
Ingredients:
- 500 grams of beef (cut according to taste)
- 2 lime leaves
- 2 stalks of lemongrass (crushed and cut into 2-3 pieces)
- 4 bay leaves
- 400 ml thick coconut milk
- 200 ml thin coconut milk
- 2 stalks of turmeric leaves (if available)
- Right amount of oil
Ground spices:
- 10-15 dry red chilies (according to spicy taste)
- 5 red onions
- 3 cloves of garlic
- 2 cm ginger
- 2 cm galangal
- 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ground pepper
- 2 cm cinnamon
- 3 cloves
- 3 cardamom pods
How to make:
1. Heat cooking oil in a large enough frying pan, then saute the ground spices until fragrant and change color. Make sure the fire is not too high so that the spices don't burn.
2. Add the beef pieces and stir until the meat changes color and the spices are absorbed into it.
3. Add lime leaves, lemongrass, bay leaves, and turmeric leaves (if using) to the pan. Stir well.
4. Pour the thin coconut milk into the pan and stir well. Let it boil while stirring occasionally.
5. After boiling, add thick coconut milk and stir again. Let the rendang simmer over low heat until the meat becomes tender and the sauce reduces. This can take around 2-3 hours. Make sure to turn the meat occasionally so that it cooks evenly.
6. During the cooking process, make sure the rendang is not too dry. If the rendang is too dry before the meat is tender, add a little hot water.
7. Once the meat is tender and the sauce has reduced until it becomes oily, your beef rendang is ready to be served.
8. Serve hot beef rendang with white rice or yellow rice. You can also add sliced fresh red chilies to give it an extra spicy taste.
